The cost to Australia from influenza each year has been estimated at $880 million dollars. Losses to industry for 2006 were $130.43 million with 1.5 million lost worker days! Studies have shown savings to business of $2.58 per dollar spent on vaccination programmes. (From economic report into costs of influenza to Australian health systems, March 2007) Programmes should be held in March as vaccines take 2 weeks to become effective. Unfortunately the virus changes each year so vaccinations are required at 12 monthly intervals. |
